Serving you
on our railways
Community Pastors work alongside regional rail networks such as Greater Anglia and C2C, together with British Transport Police, with the intention of being a caring presence on our station platforms and on board trains. It's far more than just making sure you reach your destination safely. As well as bringing a Christian presence, Community Pastors working on railways will have received specialised training with the aim of helping reduce the number of suicides at stations.

The team consists of volunteers from a wide variety of churches, and a back-up prayer team. Community Pastors certainly have a busy timetable with three teams operating on different parts of the Essex network.

All our Community Pastor patrols are reporting significant conversations with the public. The distinctive sky blue uniform certainly gives them a useful platform for ‘deep and meaningfuls’. They may counsel passengers previously touched by suicide in their family, friendship group or workplace.
They could be comforting those facing physical pain, grief or work issues. Or maybe just assisting staff to carry a bag for an elderly traveller.

And it’s not just passengers who are assisted. Rail staff have issues too, and we’re there to provide a listening ear and to cheer them on. It’s all in a day’s work for a Community Pastor on your rail network.
